On June 16, 2021, FinCEN updated (“Modernized”) the website for filing Currency Transaction Reports (CTR). The new look will likely confuse experienced e-filers the first time it is accessed.
- The current Geographic Targeting Order (GTO) is not affected by the update. The GTO continues to govern transactions in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties.
- Logon credentials including passwords and PINs for Members who already have a BSA E-Filing account have not changed.
- A quick access “File Now” icon is located on the new home page. It will take one to the “File FinCEN Reports” page where the CTR template may be downloaded.
- The CTR template also has a few slight changes making it easier to use. The 6-step filing instructions now appear on the CTR home page. The “Submit” button, also on the home page, has been replaced by a “Ready to File” button which becomes active once the completed form has been “Validated.”
- FinCEN has published a 3-page Notice here explaining the changes. FinCEN has also published a remarkably complete 30-page Guide which explains every aspect of the filing portal here. BSA E-Filers should download and save it for reference purposes.
- The process for setting up a new account has not changed.
- FinCEN guidance on The Fund website will soon be updated to reflect the modernized process.
