Description

A focus on the 7 steps involved in mitigating survey-related title claims. An example demonstrates identifying technical requirements, checking the legal description, locating easements & setback lines, and running the “finger test” to properly draft a specific survey exception for the title insurance policy. Proper use of a non-current survey is also discussed. This session stresses the importance of disclosing survey matters before closing. A checklist is provided with the program materials as a tool for future survey reviews.

Rebecca L.A. Wood is located at The Fund’s headquarters in Orlando, Florida. She earned her B.A. degree in Business Administration from King College in Bristol, TN in 1988, and her J.D. from the University of Florida in 2010. She was a member of the Florida Law Review, and is the Coordinating Editor of The Fund Title Notes. She is a participating member of the Real Property Probate and Trust Law Section of the Florida Bar, and an active member of that Section’s Title Standards Committee.  Ms. Wood was a contributing author on the Florida Bar’s Continuing Legal Education publication entitled “Florida Real Property Title Examination and Insurance, Eighth Edition.”
Prior to joining The Fund in August 2014, Ms. Wood was a transactional attorney practicing in Gainesville, Florida where she focused primarily on residential real estate closings and title insurance. She is a Past-President of the North Florida Association of Real Estate Attorneys.
