It’s Still 2020 & Life Goes On

Melissa Jay Murphy shares important Cybersecurity and Fund Real Estate Forum info

Dear Members,

This year has presented unprecedented challenges for everyone.  As we move into the remaining months of 2020, I am confident we will naturally begin the process of reflecting on the good, the bad and the ugly of what we have been through.  And while the pandemic has created new issues for us to deal with, life goes on.  We still have hurricanes.  We still have clients and customers whose real estate needs we want to support.  We still want to evolve as better lawyers, better business people, better spouses/parents and better friends.

To this end, I offer up an opportunity for you to learn more about one of the biggest threats to our industry:  cyberfraud.  I also remind you of a great opportunity to engage with fellow Fund Members across the state.  Read on…………

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month.  This annual event was created in 2003 through a collaboration of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the National Cyber Security Alliance, with its goal to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity. With our industry being a primary target of the fraudsters, exercising good  cyber hygiene and diligence is a year-round requirement. To help raise awareness for Fund Members and their staff, The Fund’s Legal Education Department has created a great mix of events and materials that I urge you to explore. For example, each weekday throughout the month, we offer a valuable Cyber Security Tip of the Day, which you can link to hereThese tips run the gamut, from articles on encrypted email, links to the FBI’s ic3 website, recorded webinars, and more.  There will also be free and accredited webinars and Town Halls each Tuesday of the month and my next TitleNow webcast on Oct. 27th will feature Tom Cronkright of CertifID, a dynamic and super knowledgeable speaker on wire fraud. Please visit Information Security for more details.

Fund Real Estate Forum.  Just a quick message to remind you of our Real Estate Forum and encourage you to become a member and participate in the always interesting discussions.  The forum was started by David Slachter, a Fund Member, for the purpose of encouraging interaction between Fund Members:  sharing challenges in their practices, asking for feedback on legal issues, asking for and making referrals for all types of professional expertise….the list goes on.  It makes for fascinating and valuable reading!  It is easy to join and participate and there is no charge to Fund Members.  For more information, contact david@slachterconsulting.com or review the attached brochure.  Hope to see your participation soon!

That's all for this week.  Stay safe and let me know how we can help you.
