How to Address Sovereignty Lands Issues in Florida

Date and Time: Tuesday, December 22 (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM)

Description:
Minnesota boasts on its license plate that it is the “Land of 10,000 Lakes”, but that is nothing for Florida. Florida has over 30,000 lakes, one ocean, one gulf, numerous streams, rivers, ponds, and swamps. Florida is more wet than dry. With all of this water how is one to determine if the state has an interest in the land?

This one hour presentation will review the history and importance of water issues in Florida. As Florida entered the union, it entered under the “equal footing doctrine”. The equal footing doctrine and the Swamp and Overflow Lands Act gave the state title to more than two thirds of the state.

This program includes:

  • A detailed discussion of how to determine if sovereignty land issues are present on a particular parcel today.
  • Review how to access and review LABINS as well as other necessary websites.
  • Common water exceptions used in Florida and how and why they should be used on a particular parcel.

Accreditation: This webinar is approved for 1.0 general and 1.0 Real Estate, City, County & Local Government Law, or State & Federal Government Administrative Practice certification credit with The Florida Bar; 1 hour of continuing education with NALA.

This seminar meets the requirements of the NALA certifying Board for continuing legal education credit required to maintain the CP (Certified Paralegal) credential.
