Help real estate professionals understand and know the coming changes

Dear Fund Member:

Watching Jordan Spieth win the Masters at 21 years of age was an exciting event for many of us this past weekend. I enjoyed the historical perspective provided by the media on the achievements of golf legends like Bobby Jones, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer and others. Seeing old footage of prior tournaments was an interesting journey through time. While the game of golf has changed a lot over the years (note the advances in equipment, the size of the winnings and the change in celebrity status of top ranked golfers), it all boils down to hitting a small ball into a small hole 300 yards away. If you have high expectations for your success at any endeavor, I recommend that you take up something other than golf (I speak from experience).

What is my point? Perhaps it’s the old adage “the more things change, the more they remain the same.” We are all fretting and strategizing about how to best deal with the changes on the August horizon, but perhaps we need to focus for a moment on what remains the same. “What” you do will not change come August. You will continue to represent buyers, sellers and lenders at a very high standard. You will continue to explain contracts, review loan documents, prepare deeds, safeguard people’s money and ensure titles are properly transferred. “How” you do this will change, but the value that you bring to a real estate transaction will not be disturbed by the new rules.

Members have been asking for tools to help them promote their practices and the role of an attorney in a transaction. The changes that are coming in August are the perfect excuse for some new offerings. A new Realtor Brochure is now available in two formats for you to use in your communications with real estate agents. The first brochure format is a designed, print-ready PDF that is available for immediate use. You can access this online at https://www.thefund.com/TheFund/media/E-Mail/Fund-RealtorBrochure.pdf.

The second brochure format is customizable, and you can use this document however you see fit:

  • add your firm name and/or logo and distribute it at events
  • include it with commission checks when you disburse
  • use it as a starting point for more detailed discussions with your referral base

This format can be accessed online at https://www.thefund.com/TheFund/media/E-Mail/Fund-RealtorBrochure_toEdit.docx

The information in the brochure is general in nature, and you will still have to be able to answer questions about the details of the new rules; we wanted to keep the brochure brief so that it would be more “readable.”

The real estate professionals with whom you deal on a daily basis may not be familiar with the coming changes in any detail. This is a great opportunity for you to be their source of information about the new forms and procedures. Take advantage of the attached brochure and other information we have provided, and share it with your referral partners so they know you are the one “in the know.” Make sure they know that you have the skills and knowledge to navigate the new landscape later this year and will successfully close their transaction.

I hope you have you found this information and the brochure helpful. As always, I appreciate you reading my email, and I always welcome your feedback. Thank you for your continued support of The Fund.

Best Regards,
