Description

In analyzing the responsible issuance of a title insurance policy, the title agent must assess risk to the title insurance underwriter. This analysis includes applying real property law and reviewing published guidelines for dealing with unique fact patterns which may present unusual insuring risk.

Marie A. Potopsingh, Underwriting Counsel, Old Republic Title

Marie A. Potopsingh is an Underwriting Counsel at Old Republic Title and is based in Broward County, Florida. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Master of Public Administration at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia. She went on to obtain a Juris Doctorate degree from the Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and participated in the International Exchange Program at University College London via the University of Miami School of Law during her law school tenure. She has been engaged in the practice law for over 23 years and is licensed to practice in both Florida and Texas.

Prior to joining Old Republic Title, Ms. Potopsingh concentrated her practice in the areas of real property litigation on behalf of institutional banks, private mortgage lenders, and loan servicers in the areas of title curative actions, foreclosures, garnishments, and ESI discovery. She also represented institutional banks regarding their compliance with state and federal subpoenas, injunctive orders and was involved in assisting clients with records preservation and retention strategies required by the CFPB, Bank Secrecy Act, and Gramm Leach Bliley Act.

Ms. Potopsingh is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida and is a member of The Florida Bar Association, the Real Property Probate and Trust Law (RPPTL) Section of The Florida Bar, The State Bar of Texas, and the Broward Attorney’s Real Estate Council (BAREC).
