The Broward REC continues to thrive despite the scourge of Covid-19! They are hosting Open Forums via ZOOM. The Forums, which are now held once per week, provide an opportunity for BAREC Members to connect and discuss the issues of the day. In addition, BAREC is presenting Ask an Attorney, live Q&A panel discussions every Monday morning for their local Realtor® association.
On June 10th, the Jacksonville Area REC held a ZOOM panel discussion addressing common issues that can interfere with timely closings including probate, family law, bankruptcy and landlord/tenant. The topics generated some pretty interesting conversation. Two Fund underwriting attorneys also attended and were able to add their unique perspective on insurability regarding various solutions.
The Central Florida Real Estate Attorneys Council (CFREAC) partnered with the Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Section of The Florida Bar (RPPTL) on June 25th to present Real Estate Practice in a COVID World: “Considerations from the Bench, Bar and Beyond” using ZOOM. The program featured an esteemed panel of speakers including 9th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Patricia Strowbridge, Board of Governors Representative Julie Frey, and RPPTL members Melissa Murphy and Wiley Boston to address a broad spectrum of topics including:
- State of the Judiciary and court proceedings
- Virtual hearings, court appearances and etiquette considerations
- Update from The Florida Bar
- Remote Online Notarization
- Title and Real Estate practice related issues
- Lease concessions and related contract issues
- Force Majeure
Following the presentations, CFREAC hosted an Open Forum/Happy Hour to provide members a chance to catch up and discuss issues impacting their practices.
The North Dade and Beaches REC hasn’t missed a beat since moving their monthly meetings online. They just held their third ZOOM meeting featuring The Fund’s Melissa Murphy, who discussed details of The Fund’s government relations and Member advocacy activities. The presentation explored the Florida legislative process, and the role of advocacy that The Fund, and the real property community in general, play in shaping real property laws in Florida.
